Ladders

Ladders

Objective: Listening and response, and acquiring numbers vocabulary.

It's useful to have a hall or playground to do this activity.

What you need to do:

Pupils sit in two lines facing a partner. Each pair is given a number in ascending order and they sit on the floor facing each other, legs stretched out flat and the soles of their feet touching the soles of their partner’s feet. Each pair needs to have space between them and the pairs next to them.

Call out a number in Welsh or Spanish.

That pair then get up and race to towards the teacher through the ladder of legs, round the outside and then back up the ladder of legs back to their place. The first person shouts first / yn gyntaf / primero (for males) or primera (for females).

The first one back scores a point for their team. Scores are announced in Welsh/Spanish.
